Luca Gentile’s artistic roots lie in graffiti and street art, with which he began experimenting in the early 2000s. Having studied comics at the Academy in Bologna and obtained a diploma as a Superior Multimedia Technician from IFTS, he embarked upon a career as a graphic designer, web designer, illustrator, video maker, and photographer. Under the pseudonym Bad Mandala, he produces illustrations, paintings, sculptures, and digital works that have been displayed in shows and events all over Italy. His idea is to give a new form to loops and characters developed over his nearly 10 years practicing graffiti art and creating comics, fusing them with the rules of graphic design and illustration learned over the same period of time working. With a simple ballpoint pen, Bad Mandala creates grandiosely complex works in which the cartoonish, playful imagery of graffiti is replicated in very rich and meticulous compositions.
